Quintin Jardine was born in Motherwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland. He is a former journalist. He is the creator of:
1. 'Oz Blackstone', a private investigator in London (the first two novels were written under the pseudonym 'Matthew Reid').
2. 'Primavera Blackstone', widow of Oz Blackstone.
3. 'Robert Skinner', a policeman in Edinburgh.
