Pseudonym of William Edmund Butterworth III. He was born in Newark, New Jersey. He also wrote under the pseudonyms 'Alex Baldwin', 'Webb Beech', 'Jack Dugan' and 'John Kevin Dugan'. His son, William E. Butterworth IV, is the co-author of many of his novels. Griffin wrote the following series:
1. 'Badge of Honor' series featuring the Philadelphia Police Force.
2. 'Clandestine Operations' series, a series set during the Cold War.
3. 'Honor Bound' series featuring the OSS in Buenos Aires, Argentina during the 1940s.
4. 'Men at War' series featuring the OSS (a wartime intelligence agency) during World War II.
5. 'Presidential Agent' series featuring Charley Castillo, a Delta Force Major.
