  Pseudonym of John Innes Mackintosh Stewart. He was born in Edinburgh. Although he had a successful academic and literary career under his own name, he is more widely known as Michael Innes, the pseudonym under which he wrote forty-five crime novels and numerous short stories. He is the creator of 'John Appleby', later Sir John, a Scotland Yard detective, who appears in most of his novels. |
