Matti Yrjänä Joensuu was born in Helsinki, Finland. He was awarded the State’s Literature Prize in 1982 and received the Martin Beck Award in 1987. He is the creator of 'Timo Harjunpää', a Detective Sergeant of the Helsinki Violent Crimes Unit. Only a few of his novels are translated into English.
