Sydney Horler was born in Leytonstone, Essex. At the age
of 17 he became a reporter. From 1905 till 1911 he worked with the Western
Daily Press and Allied Newspapers in Bristol. He moved to London to work
for the Daily Mail and Daily Citizen. In 1919 he decided
to write fiction on a full-time basis. He wrote stories for various periodicals.
In 1925 came the turning point in his career with the publication of his
first crime novel The Mystery of No. 1. Many novels followed. He
also wrote horror stories.
