Stephen Edwin King was born in Portland, Maine. He was educated at Lisbon High School in Lisbon Falls, Maine and at the University of Maine. As early as 1962, he submitted short stories to publishers. In 1967, he finally made his first professional sale - a short story entitled The Glass Floor, which was published in Startling Mystery Stories. He graduated from college in 1970 and went to work at a gas station. In his free time he continued to write and sell short fiction. King found full-length novels harder to sell until 1973 when he sold Carrie to publisher Doubleday for $2.500. From then on, he started to write full-time. He also wrote under the pseudonym 'Richard Bachman'. He is married to Tabitha King. Visit also this site. |
