Val McDermid

Val McDermid was born in Scotland. She read English at Oxford. After being a journalist for sixteen years she started on a full-time writing career. She also writes crime fiction reviews for the Manchester Evening News. She is the creator of:
1. 'Allie Burns', a reporter.
2. 'Karen Pirie', a Detective Chief Inspector in Fife, Scotland.
3. 'Kate Brannigan', a private detective in Manchester, England.
4. 'Lindsay Gordon', a freelance journalist (written as V.L. McDermid).
5. 'Tony Hill and Carol Jordan', a clinical psychologist and a Detective Chief Inspector.
