Edith Mary Pargeter was born in Horsehay, Shropshire. After school she was employed as a chemist's
assistant. At the outbreak of the war she enlisted with the WRNS. Her first novel was an historical one. When her
following novels proved to be unsuccessful, she turned to crime fiction. She is the creator of:
