Joan M. Drury was born in Richfield, Minnesota. She was an author, bookstore owner in Grand Marais, Minnesota, and publisher of the lesbian feminist press Spinster's Ink. She is the creator of 'Tyler Jones', a San Francisco-based newspaper columnist and amateur sleuth.
