Pseudonym of Herschel Goldberg. He was born in Kyiv, Russian Empire (Ukraine). He emigrated to the USA in 1905. He was an author and criminal. His novel The Hoods was made into the 1984 film Once Upon a Time in America where his part was played by Robert De Niro.
