Eric Clifford Ambler was born in Charlton, South London. He was educated at a London grammar school and won an engineering scholarship to London University. After leaving university, he worked as a copywriter for a London advertising agency. Eventually he became the director of the agency. He also wrote together with Charles Rodda under the pseudonym 'Eliot Reed'. |
