John Wainwright

John William Wainwright was born in Hunslet, Leeds. He was a rear gunner in the Second World War, after which he spent twenty years as a policeman in Yorkshire. He is the creator of:
1. 'Robert Blayde', a Chief Superintendent in Yorkshire.
2. 'John George Davis', a police constable in a small town (under the pseudonym 'Jack Ripley').
3. 'Superintendent Gilliant', Chief Constable in Yorkshire.
4. 'Lennox', a Detective Chief Inspector in Yorkshire.
5. 'Lyle', a Detective Chief Inspector and later a Detective Superintendent in Yorkshire.
6. 'Charles Ripley', the head of the uniform branch in Yorkshire.
