Joseph Hilaire Pierre René Belloc was born in La Celle-Saint-Cloud, Seine-et-Oise, France. He became a naturalised British subject in 1902 while retaining his French citizenship. He was an author, poet, and historian. He was the brother of author Mrs Belloc Lowndes.
