John Dyson was born in Auckland, New Zealand. He was an author and magazine journalist. He worked for the Auckland Star, and as an armed forces reporter for the South China Morning Post, and later as a reporter for the Manchester Evening News in England. In Liverpool he met Kate, a young reporter for the Yorkshire Post who became his wife.
