Elleston Trevor was born as Trevor Dudley Smith in Bromley, Kent. In the Second World War, he served in the RAF as a flight engineer. He is the creator of:
1. 'Hugo Bishop', a brilliant amateur sleuth (under the pseudonym 'Simon Rattray').
2. 'Quiller', a British spy (under the pseudonym 'Adam Hall').
3. 'Richard Vaness', an American pilot and adventurer (under the pseudonym 'Mansell Black').
