John Dean was born in Derby but grew up in Darlington, County Durham. He now lives in Galloway, Scotland with his wife. He is an author and freelance journalist. He is the creator of:
1. 'Danny Radford', a Detective Superintendent in Leyton (under the pseudonym 'John Stanley').
2. 'Jack Harris', a Detective Chief Inspector in the north Pennines.
3. 'John Blizzard', a Detective Chief Inspector in the fictional town of Hafton in northern England.
