Frank Branston was born in Retford, Nottinghamshire. He was an author, journalist, newspaper proprietor, and first directly elected mayor of the Borough of Bedford in Bedfordshire. He is the creator of 'Tommy Tompkins', an investigative reporter for the Ridley Guardian.
