Janet Miriam Holland Taylor Caldwell was born in Manchester, England. In 1907, she emigrated to the United States with her parents. She also wrote popular fiction and used the pseudonyms 'Marcus Holland' and 'Max Reiner', and her married name, 'J. Miriam Reback'.
