Steven F. Havill was born in New York. He currently lives in Datil, New Mexico with his wife. He is an author and teacher. He also writes western novels. He is the creator of:
1. 'Thomas Parks', a doctor and amateur sleuth in 1890s Port McKinney, Washington.
2. 'Posadas County Mystery' series featuring Bill Gastner who goes from undersheriff to sheriff to livestock Inspector and Estelle Reyes-Guzman, undersheriff in Posadas County, New Mexico.
