Mary Violet Heberden was born in London. She was an author and stage actress and lived most of her life in the US. She is the creator of:
1. 'Desmond Shannon', a private investigator in New York City.
2. 'Paul Kilgerrin', a private investigator and also an agent with Military Intelligence (under the pseudonym 'Charles L. Leonard').
3. 'Rick Vanner', a naval intelligence officer.
