Marianne Ruuth was born in Kumla, Örebro County, Sweden. She left home at the age of 14 and became a member of the Royal Theater of Stockholm. After becoming a journalist, her newspaper sent her to Los Angeles for a one-year assignment and she decided to stay in the United States.
