Edward Paul Abbey was born in Indiana, Pennsylvania. He was an author and essayist. He studied at the University of New Mexico where he received a BA in philosophy and English and a master's degree in philosophy. Throughout his life, he worked as a military police officer, newspaper reporter, bartender, and park ranger. He was married four times. He is the creator of 'George Hayduke', an ex-Green Beret fighting for the environment.
