Michael McEachern McDowell was born in Enterprise, Alabama. He was an author and screenwriter. He also wrote together with Dennis Schuetz (1946-1989) under the joint pseudonyms 'Nathan Aldyne' and 'Axel Young'. He is the creator of:
1. 'Jack Beaumont and Susan Bright', two people who are 27 years old and meet each other for the first time in each book.
2. 'Dan Valentine and Clarisse Lovelace', a gay bartender and a straight real estate agent as amateur sleuths in 1980s Boston, Massachusetts (under the pseudonym 'Nathan Aldyne' with Dennis Schuetz).
