Charles Grant Blairfindie Allen was born on Wolfe Island near Kingston, Ontario, Canada. He studied in England and France and taught at Brighton College in 1870 till 1871. In his mid-twenties he became a professor at Queen’s College in Jamaica. After his professorship, he returned to England where he started to write. He also wrote essays on science.
