Julian Smart was born in Nottingham. He currently lives in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland with his wife Harriet Smart and their daughter Antonia. He is an author, software developer, and co-founder of Anthemion Software. He is the creator of 'Thomas Rufford', an amateur sleuth in Victorian England.
